TAXI

I'd completed a marathon of papers. English and E Math.
I don't feel that confident about my essay though. Firstly, quite a huge number, ok a VERY BIG NUMBER, of people would had picked that question 4. Secondly, because of this, the probability of my essay sticking out as being unique-the good unique- is pretty slim, if not non-existent. And so, this officially full-stops my hope to scrap an A2. Hurray.
Mathematics was a scare. I nearly lost 12 marks because I did not do the last two pages of questions. The reason being that this couple were glued together and it was only when I flipped through the entire booklet for the second time did I find out that I'd missed them out. Gee. Some Halloween scare.
The questions were tougher than the previous years. Cambridge is really trying to make a statement. I think it goes like this "If we want to kill you. We CAN". Sure, the next time you are about to massacre, give me some prior notice so that I can take the next paper. ...
I spent a ridiculous amount of time figuring out the symmetry. It was retarded really when I finally got the answer and I was sitting there like a retard laughing to myself. 1 mark. It all counts in Paper 1. I hate it. I hate it so much.

I took a cab home today because I was plain tired. And lazy as well. The driver was a jovial guy. His daughter, I think Sec 4, studies at Crescent Girls'. He told me la please. This is the conversation we had:

Uncle: So, do you want to turn right or go straight? (statement sounds fishy I know)
Zhiyang: oh. Er, please turn right; via the Lichi Avenue.
Uncle: Ly-chi? No la. It should be Lee-chi Avenue.
Zhiyang: Oh okay. (I didn't bother to argue with him further because the words "Li" can be pronounced as Lee or in my case "Ly" because I was thinking of the word "Lichen" at that time.
Uncle: Ok. How do you pronounce this word "Sinai"?
Zhiyang: "See-nai"?
Uncle: No. It should be "Sy-nai". As in Simon.
Zhiyang: Ooh. (I was thinking of Simei at that time)
Uncle: Actually, both are the same. Just one is American and the other British. So, no difference la.

*Just then, a bunch of Cedarians walked past.
Uncle: That one what school ah?
Zhiyang: Cedar. (I swear that he's about to ask the are you attached question next. But looking at my annoyed look, I think he dropped it.)
Uncle: You Maris Stella right? Better than Cedar or not?
Zhiyang: Nope. Their entry scores are higher than ours. Maris Stella was 233. (Correct me if I'm wrong)
Uncle: Oh. Then, you can go SJI what. You can go Maris Stella, you can go SJI.
Zhiyang: No..I think the standards of SJI are higher.
Uncle: Saint Andrews?
Zhiyang: I don't think so..
Uncle: My daughter is from Crescent Girls'. Haha. I live in Woodlands and I send her to such a far-flung school. Haha.
Zhiyang: Haha.
Uncle: You..Sec what?
Zhiyang: Oh. Sec 4.
Uncle: Oh. O level time right. How were the E math and English papers today?
Zhiyang: Erm. I don't think there is any change in standard for English; English is English. But for the E math, it was slightly tougher than the previous year.
Uncle: Previous year? How did you..
Zhiyang: I do pass year papers.
Uncle: Oh. Eh, you want to turn left here ah?
Zhiyang: No, please do a U-turn.
Uncle: Ok. Ah ya. the government so dim, never make a through road here. Then, at least we can save the trouble of making such U-turns.
-->I am substituting the word stupid with dim.
Zhiyang: Haha.
Uncle: No worries. I am sure that you all will do well in English. Because Singapore was once a colony of UK. So, if Singapore fails, it will bring shame to UK.
Zhiyang: *silent*
Personally, I disagree with his statement. So, if we do well, the credit goes to the British? I don't think so. Singapore is where it is now because of ourselves. Singaporeans. Our success has none what so ever to do with the British.
Uncle: Oh. Then how well do you fare for Math?
Zhiyang: Ok loh.
Uncle: Got 80 marks plus or not?
Zhiyang: I think so. Uncle, please stop here.

And then, he continued with some racist remark about the minority races of Singapore.
I have mixed reactions about this dude. He first strike me as jovial and happy. I thought I had to converse in mixed Chinese and English, because he was sputtering that, to "blend" in. But when he was able to converse fluently in English, albeit the occasional broken English, I was glad. Why? Because this showed that not all taxi drivers are horridgible, vegetable in English. Haha.
I think his name started with Lee. Hmm. Figures.

this used to be a funhouse. But now it’s full of evil clowns.
